career changer woman wanting to be a devlopment worker
Young graduate looking for an internship
Alex

I am 26 years old and have been working in the Third Sector for 3 years doing social research and volunteer coordination. I received 4-5 months of free mentoring sessions from Kevin as part of the REACH scheme for the Third Sector.

Before mentoring began:

I had just been given an unexpected promotion at work into a role that involved teaching young people and coordinating them on a University accredited course. I was also still doing a significant amount of work from my previous role. I became highly stressed in the role and sought help from Kevin to assist me develop techniques to support myself, as well as consider a move out of the role entirely.

During mentoring:

At the beginning of the process Kevin helped me to consider each problem carefully and in a positive way that promoted creative thinking. During mentoring sessions we would brainstorm together methods to overcome current work problems. In addition to this Kevin helped me to consider and assess future problems or issues that may arise and I therefore developed better long term planning within the role.

During the following 3 months my coaching evolved and assisted me to consider my professional future and long term planning. This became a holistic approach and considered elements of my personal life in helping to provide a practical framework for progression. During sessions with my coach I was given a variety of tools and practical approaches to identify personal and professional goals. This process was highly enjoyable and enlightening.

The sessions were relaxed, very focused and highly productive. My coach maintained a fantastic rapport with me, developed my confidence and provided me with direct and helpful advice. I developed a personal mission statement, re-wrote my CV, developed a long term timeline and put into practice the SMART principles.

Outcomes of the mentoring:

As a result of this process I have successfully finished a work project despite many challenges. I have also moved on from my old role to pursue other roles in different organisations inline with my long term goals and personal mission statement.

The entire process was thoroughly enjoyable, challenging, helpful and has provided me with invaluable tools to help me progress my career forward. Kevin did a fantastic job with me and was flexible enough for me to really utilise the advice I was give.

Thank you very much!
